Ali Bedni Bugyal Trek Overview

Bugyal – the other name for high altitude grassland or meadow in local language of Mountains. Ali Bedni Bugyal is a duo of Ali and Bedni Bugyals  and is among the few high altitude Bugyals of the country which has everything a trekker wishes for. Being a perfect example of modern day wallpaper, Ali Bedni Bugyal is a high altitude Bugyal located in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. Situated at an altitude of 3459 metres above sea level, this high alpine meadow offers magnificent views of the himalayan peaks like Mt. Chaukhamba, Mt. Nanda Ghunti and Mt. Trishul. One can surely sit here for hours gazing the grassland with snow clad Himalayan Peaks in the backdrop.  For a clear view and panoramic view of all the peaks one can trek to Bedni Top which is a 20 min hike from the Bugyal. Another piece of beauty is the Bedni Kund, which lies amidst the meadows. During the months of September and October one can easily spot Brahma Kamal, the state flower of Uttarakhand. The trek to Bedni Bugyal is of easy grade and can be done by beginners also.

Itinerary

Day 1Dehradun/Kathgodam to Lohajung | 250 Km Drive, 10-12 hours

  • Trekkers will be picked up point near Railway station at 6:00 AM
  • 8-10 Hours drive to Lohajung 
  • Halt at the guest house/hotel in Lohajung.
  • Dinner at Lohajung.
  • A quick introduction with team members and fellow trekkers at the guest house.

Day 2Lohajung to Didna Village | Trek Distance: 6.5 km | Trek Duration: 5-6 hours | Altitude Gain: 7650 ft to 8100 ft

  • Trek from Lohajung to Didna Village after breakfast
  • Today’s trek is easy
  • Just enjoy a home stay experience at Didna Village
  • Acclimatization walk and engagement activities
  • Evening refreshments followed by dinner.

Day 3Didna to Khobal Tal | Trek Distance: 10.5 km | Trek Duration: 7-8 hours | Altitude Gain: 8100 ft 11350 ft

  • Leave for Ali Bugyal and Khobal Tal Campsite after breakfast
  • The trek will pass through forests of Oak and Rhododendrons before opening up to large meadows of Ali Bugyal
  • Carry water and ORS both for this day
  • Steep ascend at start and gradual ascend towards the end.
  • Arrival at the campsite by late noon.
  • Evening walk and refreshment.
  • Dinner and overnight stay at the camps

Day 4Khobal tal to Gheroli Patal | | Trek Distance: 7 km | Trek Duration: 5-6 hours | 11350 ft to 10500 ft

  • Trek to Gheroli Patal Camp site Via Bedni Bugyal after the breakfast.
  • Gradual ascend and descends throughout the day.
  • Arrival at the summit point with Himalayan peaks like Mt. Trishul, Mt. Nanda Ghuti, Mt. Chaukhambha, Nilgiri, Neelkanth in the backdrops.
  • Rest and packed lunch at the Summit point.
  • Descend down to Gheroli Patal campsite from the summit point. 
  • Arrival at the campsite followed by evening refreshments.
  • Dinner and stay at the camps.

Day 5Gheroli Patal to Lohajung | 9 Kms Trek, 1 hour drive

  • Trek to Wan Village from Gheroli Patal campsite after breakfast.
  • Visit Latu Devta Temple
  • Drive back to Lohajung
  • Arrival at Lohajung around 2:30 PM
  • Rest for the day and enjoy the completion of your trek.

Day 6Lohajung to Kathgodam/Dehradun | 250 Km drive, 9-10 hours

  • Departure from Lohajung to Kathgodam/Dehradun/
  • 230 km ride back to Dehradun via Karnaprayag, Rudraprayag, Devprayag

How do I prepare for the trek?

Start running/walking at least 3-4 Kms everyday.

What kind of shoes will I need? Does a sport shoe work?

If it’s a snow trek a good trekking shoe is mandatory. If you buy a new shoe do walk for few days so that it fits you well and doesn’t leave you with blisters while you trek. If it is a summer trek or post monsoon trek a shoe with good grip and ankle support will do.

What food do you provide?

We provide 3 Veg meals and evening Snacks. There will be no non veg served during the trek. Eggs may or may not be served depending on the trek.

Do I need to carry trek equipment?

We will provide sleeping bags, inner liners, sleeping mats, tents. You just need to carry your personal gear. List of personal Gear is in our website under Trek Essentials.

What happens if there is an emergency?

Himalaya Journeys Treks & Expedition prides itself on being prepared for any emergency situation. Our guides are trained in first aid and can deal with most of the basic ailments that occur during a trek. Every camp site has basic first aid and oxygen cylinders But if a serious emergency occurs, we will evacuate you to the base village and nearest hospital but the expenses of that has to be borne by the individual.
